Description:
SCARCE CIVIL WAR SAVAGE REVOLVING FIREARMS CO. PERC. U.S. MARTIAL NAVY REVOLVER CA. 1861-2. .36 cal. six shot revolver with 7 1/8th” octagon barrel having the U.S. Government Sub-inspector’s “H” stamp at the rear of the left flat. Loading lever housing inspected with a “T” as well. Top of frame with the maker’s address and patent dates the last of which is May 15, 1860. All original and matching and in very good plus condition. Modest traces of blue mixed with original patina and minor light salt and pepper. Original grips with the original patinated finish and some light oiling. Very good bore and in perfect working order. Unique action with ring trigger cocking mechanism which rotates the cylinder and cocks the hammer at the same time. Only 12,000 bought by the U.S. Government before and during the early part of the war with many received by Virginia prior to the outbreak of hostilities with the 7th Virginia Cavalry Regiment, the 34th and 35th Virginia Battalions being armed with them. The 11th Texas Cavalry is also known to have been issued these revolvers. On the Union side most were issued to Missouri, Illinois and Wisconsin Cavalry Regiments. Nice all original example.
