Description:
The design of this longrifle was influenced by a example shown in Rifles of Colonial America Vol. 2 by George Shumway in the section on rifles of southern orgin. This Virginia style rifle is stocked in red maple that is tiger striped from muzzel cap to butt plate and trimmed in brass furniture. Ignition is provided by a hand tuned siler flintlock by Jim Chambers. The trigger is set to just over 4 lb. pull for accuracy and safety. The 54 caliber 42" swamped octagon Colerain barrel gives the rifle excellent balance without being overly muzzle heavy. The bore is cut rifled with six lands and radius grooves with a 1 in 56" twist for a tightly patched round ball. The bore is bright and clean, in as-new condition

I am the builder, Thom Frazier, and this rifle is signed on the top flat of the barrel. I have been building rifles for hunters and reinactors since 1978. This rifle is as-new, unfired.

This longrifle is fitted with a 42" Colerain swamped octagon barrel. The swamped octagon barrel is thickest at the breech for strength, tapers to a narrow waist to reduce weight, and flares at the muzzle to align the sights.

The raised carved lock panel terminates in a beaver tail at the mid point of the wrist. The square cheek is shaped with a molded edge.
It has raised carved scrolls in front of and behind the cheek piece.
It uses a 7/8" knapped English gun flint for best performance in this lock.
Fast ignition is assured by the stainless vent liner, positioned well above the bottom of the pan, centered on the heat of the flash.
An entry pipe, and two forward pipes mount the 3/8" ramrod. The ramrod is fitted with a flared brass tip and hidden iron tip threaded 8-32 for cleaning attachments. The raised carving from the lock panels flows into a shell design around the flared tang of the breech plug.
The maple stock is stained to a dark brown with golden undertones to best display the figure. T
The sliding wood patchbox has a bullet shaped nose, and the base is cut with thumb relief. Compress the spring toward the lid and slide it to the rear to reveal a deep cut cavity for flints, patches, or other shooting accessories.
Trigger reach is 13-1/4" .to fit today's shorter to average man, and the rifle's weight is 8.6 pounds.
