Description:
Serial #10534, 8.15x46mm, 29 1/2” barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a handsome, Gew.98 pattern rifle that retains about 90-92% of the original blue on the barrel that has silvered slightly at the muzzle as well as on some of the projecting edges and surfaces, and some mild freckling on the trigger guard and stock furniture. The receiver and non-matching numbered bolt were finished armory bright but have since turned to a mottled gray patina that has freckling throughout, heaviest along the handle and knob. The intact, walnut stock (which has not been duffel-cut) has a fine original finish with some minor bruises and handling marks throughout. These rifles were used for target competitions that stipulated a service pattern rifle but were chambered in the low power 8.15x46mm cartridge. The single shot models are the most commonly encountered variant, but some were made with functional magazines. They are very pleasant rifles to shoot and have, unsurprisingly, a fine reputation for accuracy. This example is in fine overall condition and would make a terrific addition to any collection.
