Description:
NSN, 11.15x36R Fruhwirth, 22 1/2” barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is an exceptionally rare carbine (Repetiergewehr), issued to Military Police units of the Austro-Hungarian Army, that was arsenal reconditioned to excellent condition long ago. The barrel and receiver retain 97-98% of an excellent rust blue arsenal finish with some very mild silvering and fading at the muzzle and along some of the high and projecting edges. The Austrian military proof is still quite crisp and clear on the breech of the barrel, but the other markings were removed at the time of the reconditioning (presumably as the gun was to sold commercially). The bolt is arsenal bright with some very mild freckling just starting to appear on the handle and knob. The nearly full-length walnut stock has scattered minor handling marks in the otherwise excellent military oil finish. There are no cracks or chips in the wood and the blued steel buttplate is in fine shape as well. These early Kropatschek magazine carbines are almost never encountered, and this example, which is in excellent overall condition, would make an absolutely splendid addition to any collection of rare and high condition military long arms.
