Description:
Ithaca Flues Grade 1 1/2 - 20 Gauge SxS Shotgun
20 GAUGE, FACTORY 98% CONDITION, 5LBS. 7OZ.

General Specs: Ithaca, Year 1914, 20 Gauge, 5lbs 7oz, Side by Side
Serial Number: 255931

Ithaca made over 250,000 Flues model guns, the most prolific of all of their various models of side by side guns created over the years.  Collectors of Ithaca guns tend to gravitate toward the NID model that followed the Flues model.  My opinion is that the Flues gun is often more desirable in the way of handling characteristics, weight, and balance than the NID, and they have always been reliable, solid little guns.  They always had nicer wood and checkering than other makers in the same price range, and tens of thousands are still in use today.  This gun, sn255931 built in 1914, IS A VERY DIFFERENT GUN THAN THE AVERAGE FLUES GUN YOU WILL SEE FOR SALE.  First, it was made near the very end of the Grade 1 1/2 that has true, fine damascus barrels.  By 1917 WW1 ended the supply of damascus, and by 1919 the Grade 1 1/2 was discontinued.  Second, THE FACTORY ORIGINAL FINISHES ARE NEAR MINT.  These little guns are most often found with little finish remaining, used hard over the years.  With at least 98% vivid, original damascus pattern showing, the barrels are gorgeous.  The receiver retains 98% vivid factory case color on the foliate style engraving, the wood has likely never been off the gun and retains crisp, factory original checkering with strong finish, the gun is tight as new, and it seems to have been barely carried and shot.  Now, balance this little gun right on the hinge pin at a fine 5lb. 7oz. weight and you have the ultimate upland carry gun for your favorite game.  The 28" barrels have .005 choke restriction right (from the factory) or in today's lingo, skeet choke, and .016 restriction left barrel for perfect upland shooting, and the bores are like mirrors.  CONDITION IS THE PRIMARY FACTOR WHEN DETERMINING VALUE AND DESIRABILITY IN INVESTMENT QUALITY SHOTGUNS.  Add delightful handling characteristics and 20 gauge and this is a gun you should not pass up!
