Description:

Guns by Sally-always the best for less. We are extremely proud to offer this scarce example of LC Smith's 20 bore lightweight in 3E grade. Hunter Arms did not make a 20 gauge until 1907, and this one was made in 1910. Only 147 of these were made, with far fewer surviving today. This dainty side by side is in very good condition. The blue is fairly even, drifting to plum, with some thinning at the muzzle and carry points. The nicely figured wood has only light handling marks, the checkering flattened but all there. There is a fair amount of case color about the receiver, and the bores are beautiful. The 28 inch Nitro Steel tubes are choked old school, full and full. Ejectors toss the empties, and are of the second design. The safety is non-automatic for fast shooting, and the lever resides to the right of center. Pre 1913 hammerless grades in 20 gauge ranged in weight from 5 1/2 to 7 pounds, and this slender beauty tips the scales at 5 1/2. I believe this is the lightest double LC Smith ever produced. Drops are 1 5/8 and 2 3/4 inches, with an LOP of 14 1/4 inches. She is a joy to hold and point. The fine folks at the Cody Museum verified the original specs on this shotgun. Let's not forget the engraving. Loaded with detail, the game scenes really make the high grades stand out. Now, let's look at value. Small gauges rule the market, with ejectors, rarity, and engraving all pumping up the value. There is an interesting article about a 2E 20 that went from 7200 to 12,995 in 2 weeks. You can read it at: dogsanddoubles/2009/08/an-lc-smith-hits-the-market/ It describes a 99% condition gun with a straight stock. I always say gun values are like a poker hand, and I believe my 3E beats a 2E. Also, that was in 2009. A LC Trap grade 20 sold at in 2014 for 6900 dollars, with minimal engraving. That said, I shall list this gun at 5500. I don't think you will find many more to compare. If you have been looking for the right Elsie to collect, shoot, or for investment, but want the added clout of a small bore lightweight ejector gun with Cody verification, then look no further.
