Description:
Lefever D Grade 16 Gauge SxS Shotgun
2 BARREL SET, 1891, RARE, 1 OF 100, AWESOME!

General Specs: Lefever, Year 1891, 16 Gauge, 6lbs 13oz=30"; 6lbs 15oz=28", Side by Side
Serial Number: 13129

Syracuse, N.Y. produced some very elegant shotguns.  The engraving was above most in its tasteful application.  The first of the prominent American double gun makers to stop production, Lefever produced relatively few fine doubles; in the range of 60.000 guns (compared to 250K Parkers, 500K Ithacas).  Mr. Elliot’s book “Uncle Dan Lefever—Master Gunmaker” notes there were very few higher grade 16ga. or 20ga. Lefevers produced.  A total of 8% of all production were 16ga. guns, and the vast majority were low grade DS, H, and G grade guns.  There were likely less than 100 D Grades made in 16ga.  Low production, classic double indeed.  When examining the D Grades shown in Elliot's book, this D Grade has more engraving with 2 dogs on the right sideplate, and extra scroll as well.  Most notably, this early ANTIQUE Lefever, sn13129 made in 1891, has the deeply chiseled spade shaped carvings on the breech balls and a nicely sculpted frame.  Even the trigger guard bow is engraved with a gorgeous setter and bird scene.  This is an untouched, factory original gun with the original grip cap, butt plate, excellent screws, clear sharp engraving, perfect wood to metal fit, nice and sound 30" damascus barrels, and a second set of fluid steel barrels fitted to the gun by Lefever Arms Co. in the late 1900's that are 28", and like new.  The added set of steel barrels are sleeved, engraved exactly to match the originals, and fit to perfection.  In 1896 the gun was returned to Lefever to have the then new large cocking hook installed.  This is an exceptionally rare and pleasingly original Lefever in a versatile 2 barrel set.  We will case this gun in a canvas and leather trunk style case with trade label and accessories in the next few weeks, so consider it cased.  The Lefever guns are very interesting, collectible, investment grade guns.  DON'T LET THIS ONE SLIP BY!

Specs will indicated whether it is for the 30" or 28" barrels
