Description:
SOLD... Excellent antique Merwin & Hulbert. 38 caliber DA.. Here is another excellent Merwin & Hulbert medium frame revolver I have for sale.. Caliber .38 S&W that is exactly the same as the .38 M&H.. Has the standard 3 ½" barrel. S/N is 201 and all matching of course. All Merwin & Hulber revolvers were made in the late 1870's to the mid 1880's. They are becoming quite popular with collectors in excellent condition as the machine work was very difficult to manufacture them as they have the very odd “twist open” design.. As you can see, the finish is about as good as it gets. The barrel has 99% original nickel finish. The barrel does show some light dings on the bottom of the barrel lug on both sides in the same place as you can see in the photos. Maybe the way it was stored in a rack or something. Who knows. The cylinder has 98% finish. The frame has 90%. The only missing nickel on the frame is the lower back strap area as you can see in the photo. Both sides of the frame retain 99% finish. The case colors on the hammer and trigger have faded to a silver color. There is still traces of case color on the trigger guard in the protected area.. The mechanics are excellent. A very crisp and tight gun in DA and SA. The bore is very good with strong sharp rifling and showing some minor roughness from black powder. The chambers are excellent. The markings are all excellent. Un touched front sight. Screw heads are excellent and not burred up. Tight barrel to frame fit. Has very good “suction” that this model is known for when sliding the barrel, cylinder assembly on and off the arbor pin. The original grips are very good and show very little wear. The bottom of the right grip does show a small crack.{see photo}.. It is still solid... M&H had the same problem as S&W with their grips chipping out in the area as the bottom edge is too close to the alignment pin in the frame. They are very easily chipped if dropped or even taken off the gun improperly which is usually the case.. Just an excellent little M&H revolver with most all the finish for a reasonable price. I am considering the crack in the grips and the dings on the barrel in the price as I want you to get your moneys worth here as always. $15 insured shipping. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos. Please check out my other listings while you are here as I may have something else of interest to you. Will be listing many more antique firearms in the up coming months.
