Description:
Parker Grade 2 Hammer 10 Gauge SxS Shotgun
TOP LEVER, 1882, HONEST GUN, ANTIQUE

General Specs: Parker, Year 1882, 10 Gauge, 8lbs 10oz, Side by Side
Serial Number: 26516

This Parker, sn26516 built in 1882, is a Grade 2 gun with the dolls head extension and game scene engraving.  It is a well used, well preserved gun, with perfect wood to metal fit, excellent screws, lots of wall thickness, and ready to shoot the way she is or the perfect candidate for a full restoration.  When considering restoration, it is my opinion that in most cases, the starting firearm must be in a condition that after restoration there will be no remaining "warts" or flaws.  That describes this gun well, as the wood to metal fit, mechanics, screws, engraving, and barrels are all in such a state that after restoration would make this gun show as "NEW" the way it left Parker Bros. 134 years ago.  There is plenty of wall thickness remaining to clean the bores to perfect mirrors, the wood has not been cracked or repaired, and the hammers and locks are in great shape.  Restore all finishes and touch up the engraving and you have an awesome example of a Parker graded hammer gun.  They only made 3100 or so of these Grade 2 top opener hammer guns, and you can imagine that most have left the realm of being viable shooters due to abuse, loss, and wear and tear.  This gun will serve its next owner well.  If you like the gun but want it properly and historically restored, we can do that in our shop for about $2000 total.  Of course less than a full restoration can be done for a lot less, like wood restoration or damascus restoration.  The Parker hammer guns are becoming popular with hunters and vintage sporting clays shooters across the country, and ammunition is readily available for the 2 7/8" chambers.  Most are unaware at the shooting characteristics of the 10ga. 1 1/4oz. loads or even a 1 3/8oz. loading.  The large bore diameter throws a much shorter shot string than the same load in a 12ga., thereby hitting a moving target with more pellets simultaneously, making clean kills and solid breaks.  A great investment quality shotgun.
