Here is a rare Ludw,Lowe & Co. 1896 Mauser carbine with 18 " barrel.All markings on metal match up with Ball,s book, 4th edition "Military Rifles of The World" on pages 321 &322. Only 5000 of these carbines were shipped in Sept.1896. All serial numbers match on metal including bolt. The caliber is suppose to be 7mm. Functions fine and bore has all rifling with darknes in lands and maybe v.g. plus it could use a careful cleaning.I believe the rear sight is original and not sure of front.Metal is nice smooth w/bluing turning somewhat to a pleasing patinia.The stock and fittings seem to match those in old Stoeger catalogs.Stock has been varnish with one dent near Remington butt plate and is in photo.I would consider buying an original stock.All in all a quite handy carbine as it now stands.
