EARLY COLT LIGHTNING 1ST MODEL .44-40 CAL. RIFLE CIRCA 1885 WITH SAN FRANCISCO LTTR. 26” octagon barrel with full length magazine tube. 100% original and fine plus overall. Serial number in the 4,xxx range. 30% plus original blue evenly mixed with plum patina. Walnut stock with checkered slide forend with the original nicely patinated finish. Working order and very nice bore with sharp rifling. Very hard to find configuration in a Lightning rifle as most of the later .44-40 production were round barrels. With factory letter stating that it was shipped to the firm of Baker & Hamilton, San Francisco, CA. on August 5th, 1885.
