Description:
Reduced.  Winchester 1876 carbine. Caliber 45/75.  Serial number 8911. This is an early 2nd Model with several features not commonly found on a Model 1876.  First it has the “humpback hammer” typically only found on the very early first model '76s.  Second it has a thumb print dust cover.  Lastly, the rear sight is the two-leaf flip type, with ranges for 100, and 300/500 yards respectively. I'm not saying that it is one of a kind, but I believe you will have to wait a long time before you encounter another '76 SRC with these three features.  The wood has numerous dings and dents but is solid and there are no cracks.  The wood is slightly shallow at the receiver, so it was likely sanded and re-varnished at some point.  The percentage of remaining bluing is about 30 to 40 percent, turning to a pleasing plum brown patina.   It is stamped "Winchester Repeating Arms New Haven CT Kings Improvement Patented March 29, 1866 October 16 1860."  The bore is dark, but it has good rifling, with no discernable pitting (see picture).  The action functions perfectly, however, I have not shot this gun.  It has a nice yellow patina carrier block. Everything looks original, and it comes with a Winchester letter.  It is an antique so it can be shipped directly to you. Will consider lay-a-way purchase. This gun has an appointment 20 April at an house in Rock Island IL .  Call and see if we can make a deal, and save me a 6 hour drive.
