#30679, August Schuler, Suhl: 16 Bore 300 Series (Merkel 303E) Sidelock Ejector Made in Suhl in 1964, The top rib is marked "Buhag Suhl Handwerksarbeit", The left side of the barrel breech marked "Waffen Krausser - Munchen", Schuler is marked on the frame & barrels, A Classic and Proper Period Suhl Made O/U 303E Type Sidelock, Best 300 series action body with double underlugs with double bite, Kersten cross bolt, 28 3/8" Solid Rib Ejector barrels at .667 .036 & .043" (Full & Full), Wall thickness on the bottom barrel is .041" and .042" on the top, Original 2 3/4" chambers, Bolstered frame, Double triggers, 3 piece game forend, Pistol grip stock at 14 3/16 x 1 3/8 x 2 3/8" over an identical Merkel checkered buttplate, Slight cast-off for the right hand, 7 lbs. 4 oz., Sling swivels, Cheekpiece, Very nice wood with excellent color and contrast of black & browns, Both the forend and buttstock match well, 90% coverage of 1964 Quality game bird engraving, The original barrel blue remains at 99%, The trigger guard & toplever blue is 99%, The original stock finish is at 97% with a few gun cabinet marks, The checkering is at 99%, This 16 bore might have been shot a time or two but it has no appearance ever going on a hunt, This is almost like buying it in 1964 and taking it home. You can look into buying a recent or current German O/U and see what you pay and what you get; 1964 looks very strong compared to 48 years later. It is a Schuler gun as it carries a Schuler serial number. Buhag (Büchsenmacher Handels Gesellschaft) was a cooperative that handled sales and deliveries out of Suhl and I presume Krausser in Munich ordered the gun. The firm carried on under Richard Schüler and his son Hans from the former August Schüler Company.
