It is in much better condition than most I have seen. The 34& 1/2" blade is bright with just a few stains on both sides. The leather grip is in good condition , there is no leather missing and the wire wrap is 100%. The 37" scabbard still shows 45 to 50% of what I believe was nickel plating. The brass handguard is in excellent condition. The blade is marked " U.S." near the grip. The underside of the handguard is marked: "M" , 10, 50 and "55" on the top front.. The scabbard is marked "99" or "66" in two places near its open end. There are also what I presume are inspectors initials on the blade partially hidden by the rubber under the handguard that seem to be "R and M". This sword was presented to me by my now deceased grandfather who received it from a neighbor who had fought with it in the Civil War. It has had an honored place in my collection and now it is time to allow you to enjoy it. I am selling a large collection. See all under "Romsey". SOLD |
