Description:
SOLD... Antique 1893 Marlin rifle. 38-55 caliber. 28" octagon barrel. Here is a rough looking antique 1893 Marlin rifle in 38-55 caliber with the 28" barrel. S/N 128721 and all matching on the side of the upper tang and on the butt stock inside. It was made in 1895.  This ole Marlin has suffered from poor storage over the years. Has areas of pitting over all. The metal is a gray to medium brown patina. The caliber is the very sought after and great shooting 38-55. The bore is very shootable with black powder roughness. Shows strong rifling all the way through even at the very end of the muzzle. NO rings or bulges. The mechanics are excellent. It feeds, fires and ejects flawlessly. NO bulged case or backed out primers. Head space is perfect. This would be an excellent deer hunting rifle and if you are a hand loader, the possibilities are endless of working up a load with cast or jacketed bullets that this gun loves. I just do not have the time to bench rest and work up loads for all these rifles.  The markings are all there and readable but the caliber markings are obscured by pitting and not visible. Has the original front and rear sights. The front sight is the standard rocky mountain style and the blade has been trimmed a bit. Hammer notches are perfect on half and full cock. The wood is much nicer than the metal. Not all oil soaked and has great original color. Original forearm is in very good condition with NO splits or cracks fits tight and proud to the metal all around. The butt stock is good and shows a grain split on the left side running from the receiver about 2 inches. Still is solid. Also a small surface split on the bottom at the rear of the bottom tang as can be seen in the photos. It is solid also. Both splits I think are from drying out. The front of the comb of the stock has a small notch cut for a rear tang sight so it would fold down all the way. {see photos}. The screw heads are all good and show a little use but not all burred up. It is missing the front filer screw on the upper tang as you can see in the photo. Does not effect the mechanical function at all of course. Probably had a tang sight on it at one time and the filler screw was lost. I have one for a 73 model but they are different size so is up to you to find one if it bothers you that much. This is just a rough looking ole 93 Marlin but still operates perfectly. It has decades of service left in it.. Has the very attractive longer 28" octagon barrel and is in the most sought after 38-55 caliber. It is probably the cheapest fully operating antique 93 Marlin on the planet !!! It is what it is. I don’t usually buy guns this rough but I  bought it because it was cheap and just passing a good deal on to the next owner. The wood is probably worth half the price I am asking for it. If you can stand the pitting and love to shoot this caliber, then this is the gun for you. Drag it through the woods deer hunting and never have to worry about putting a scratch on this one. This ole Marlin just refuses to lay down and die !!! $50 insured shipping. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos.
