Description:
Serial #4021, .30-40 Krag, 29? barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is an 1894 dated rifle that has traces of the original blue remaining on the barrel with the balance of the metal having turned to a pleasing dull pewter gray with scattered spots of mild freckling throughout. The receiver likewise has a mostly freckled gray patina with some scattered small spots of pinprick pitting on the magazine door as well. The bolt has a smooth, freckled gray patina with darker freckling on the handle and the extractor still has a few hints of the original bright fire blue remaining with dull gray throughout. The walnut stock and handguard have small handling marks and surface blemishes scattered throughout the military oil finish and there are several fairly large impact marks in the wood at the receiver, mostly on the left side. The ramrod channel was filled during the conversion process and the ?JSA/1895? cartouche is still crisp and clear. The stock compartment is empty but this is still a handsome early Krag modified to Spanish-American War specs. Antique
