Description:
Smith & Wesson New Model No. 3  Japanese Navy SA Revolver - Cal. .44 Russian - 7" Bbl. - SN 92XX (1878-1879) - all matching numbers.  This is the Japanese Navy contract model - 2nd order with the navy marking on the bottom of the frame.  Bore is perfect - bright  with sharp rifling and no corrosion, Action is excellent with good timing and tight lock up - excellent extraction and ejection..  Metal is about excellent overall with sharp markings and no rust or corrosion - couple of minor areas of spotting in barrel rib groove and some minor scattered light dings on frame from normal use.Metal retains about  80% to  90% blue with thinning mostly on the frame and back strap. Grips are VG + and show wear - left grip has a repaired chip at upper front at frame and is not a perfect fit at the top. Both grips show minor shrinkage , not unusual for a 137 year revolver that  likely saw sea service.  A scarce and desirable No. 3 variation  in good working order that is all original except for grip repair and in Fine or better condition that will make a nice collector item.
