Description:
SOLD... Antique model 1892 Winchester round barrel 44-40.. Here is a average condition antique 1892 Winchester in the very sought after 44-40 caliber. S/N 34412 and MFG in 1893 second year production. Has the standard 24" round barrel. The bore is very good with strong rifling all the way through. Just has very minor roughness from black powder but still a very nice strong bore. NO craters, rings or bulges. The mechanics are excellent. It feeds, fires and ejects flawlessly. NO bulged cases or backed out primers. It shoots great. Both hammer notches are excellent and positive. Original front and rear sights. Rear sight elevator only is a replacement. The metal over all is a nice even brownish patina. Maybe has had some kind of a browning solution applied at some time but still a pleasingly looking ole 92. NO pitting anywhere. Still shows the factory machining marks on the receiver. Just traces of blue on the bottom tang where it has been protected over the years. Markings are all very good. The wood is not so nice. It has been sanded and re varnished at some point in time. The forearm fits low to the bottom of the forearm cap..Fits good to the sides of the cap and the receiver. NO splits, cracks or repairs.  The butt stock has been sanded and varnished also and fits low to the upper tang and the rear of the receiver. It also has smoothed over small chips on both sides by the receiver as you can see. Or it just might have been sanded low ?? Who knows. It is what it is !!! Fits very nice to the lower tang. The stock shows a very minor but still very tight grain split at the rear of the upper tang about an inch or so long. Really does not detract from this one since the wood has been re finished. The wood has great color though.. I have this one priced considering the wood issue. Still retains the early heart shaped hammer knurling that was used on these early 92's.  The screw heads are all very nice and not all burred up. All in all, not a bad ole antique 92. It is in the right caliber with a nice bore. It has not been abused or beat on. These early antique 92's are getting very hard to find that can still be bought for less than $2000 any more. I remember the good ole days when you could buy one of these in this condition or better for $700 or so !!!! Ones that sell for parts are bringing that or more now. $50 insured shipping. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos. I want everyone to be pleased with their purchases or your money back. I think you will like this one. It is a great shooter or entry grade collector for the money. Thank you for looking and please check my other listings as I may have something of interest to you.
