Barrel has H&P percussion breech. Top of breech clearly stamped 1862. Percussion bolster clearly stamped H&P. Lock marked U.S. over spread winged Eagle over JOHNSON. Lock also marked MIDDN CONN 1830. Buttplate tang marked U.S. and also contains a period GAR (Grand Army of the Republic) inscription. Inscription reads; "PRESENTED TO ISAAC DAVIS POST 138. G.A.R. BY COMRADE CHARLES W. GRANT JULY 1883".Included with this musket is a historical research folder containing information on the soldier and his service as a guard at Ft Delaware. This is a unique, historical piece of American history from the Civil War. Full walnut stock in great condition. Iron parts are smooth with age patina. Lock mechanics perfect.
