Description:
Fine condition U.S. Model 1816 musket converted to percussion by HEWES & PHILLIPS in 1862. Barrel has H&P percussion breech. Top of breech clearly stamped 1862. Percussion bolster clearly stamped H&P. Lock marked U.S. over spread winged Eagle over JOHNSON. Lock also marked MIDDN CONN 1830. Buttplate tang marked U.S. and also contains a period GAR (Grand Army of the Republic) inscription. Inscription reads; "PRESENTED TO ISAAC DAVIS POST 138. G.A.R. BY COMRADE CHARLES W. GRANT JULY 1883".Included with this musket is a historical research folder containing information on the soldier and his service as a guard at Ft Delaware. This is a unique, historical piece of American history from the Civil War. Full walnut stock in great condition. Iron parts are smooth with age patina. Lock mechanics perfect. Has sling swivels and orig ramrod. Not warranted safe to fire.
