Description:
Serial #22419, .50 caliber, 20” part round/part octagon barrel with a fine, bright bore that has mild freckling within the grooves at the breech. This is a very nice carbine that retains 92-95% of the original blue on the barrel with scattered spots and specks of mild freckling, some mild fading at the muzzle, and some further silvering along the edges of the breech facets. The frame retains about 60-70% of the original color case-hardening that has darkened and freckled in spots over time but is still attractive and bright where it's still visible. Some spots of dark freckling are present on the hammer, lever, sling bar, and ring; while the walnut stock, which has crisp cartouches on the left side of the wrist, exhibits only minor handling marks and blemishes scattered throughout under an added military oil finish. The buttplate has a darkly mottled gray patina with only some small specks of pinprick pitting at the heel, and a small painted inventory label on the left side, “109”. This is a very nice cavalry Maynard that rates fine-near excellent condition overall, and would make great addition to any collection. Antique
