Description:
Serial #75893, .31 caliber, 6” octagon barrel with a good bore that has some dark freckling and pitting within the grooves. This revolver was made in 1853 and has matching numbers on the frame, barrel, cylinder, arbor, wedge, small brass triggerguard, and backstrap. The metal has an overall smoothly mottled pewter gray patina with some faint hints of the original finish still remaining on a few of the protected areas. The unnumbered loading lever has some muted original color case-hardening present at the hinge, while the cylinder retains nearly all of the crisp stagecoach scene with some mild pinprick pitting around the nipples and some very light freckling along the front face. The arbor is slightly bent at the slot, but the wedge will still come out and the cylinder still turns without difficulty. The brass has a few traces of the original silver remaining near the front of the trigger guard bow, but mostly has a pale yellow-ochre patina with some wear along the edges and the one-piece walnut grip has about 60-70% of the original varnish remaining and the balance flaked to the underlying wood. Some light marks and surface blemishes are present on either side, but these are minor. The lock-up is tight and the mechanism is fully functional. This is a handsome little revolver that rates very good plus-fine condition overall, and a nice example of a '49 Pocket. Antique
