This one was manufactured between 1803 and 1806, based on the 33 1/8 inch barrel. Those manufactured after 1813 had a 36 inch barrel. This piece was converted to the drum and nipple style conversion. It was probably converted by AT Baxter of Baltimore, MD as the lock used is so marked and is an excellent fit to the gun. Baxter was a well-known gunsmith and rifle maker in Baltimore in the period 1830 to 1850. The overall condition of the wood and metal are extremely fine. The barrel has been freshened to 60 Cal.
