Description:
"REDUCED" 450 Nitro Express single shot falling block on the 1902 Webley action, made by Webley. Less than 300 copies of this action have believed to have been made. Excellent bore and very very good condition with no stock cracks and a leather recoil pad. The 1902 Webley action was renowned for its strength and the .600 nitro express was built on them. Retains 70% faded case colors and appears well taken care of except for a wood bruise on the right front of the forend. Locks up as new and is mechanically excellent. The rifle weighs 9 pounds 8 ounces and has a 26" barrel with express sights, one standing and 2 flip up to 300 yards. Behind the steel grip cap are small stampings in the wood of a "14" over "383" which is indicative of markings in a Maharaja's armory. The 14 being the district in India. Possibly the Maharaja of Mysore, but not sure of that. The rifle has a 13 1/2" pull to the end of the leather pad. Some tiger stripe figure in the butt stock. The barrel has about 90 to 95% blue. Proofed for the 3 1/4" nitro express round at 70 grains of cordite and 480 grain bullet. Wal Winfer in Volume 6 of his British Single Shot Rifles lists only 23 rifles known to exist. The highest action number known is 284. This rifle has action number 154.
