Description:
L.C. Smith Ideal Grade 16 Gauge SxS
30" BARRELS, 1913, EJECTORS, 80% CC

General Specs: LC Smith, Year 1913, 16 Gauge, 6lbs 12oz, Side by Side
Serial Number: 216302E

The Ideal Grade L.C. Smith is the first level of a "graded" Elsie, with open foliate engraving pattern, nicer wood and checkering than the Field grade, and the banjo style forend latch rather than a snap on forend.  They made around 4500 Ideal Grades in 16ga., so it is not a "rare" gun.  However, only 770 or so were made with the long, graceful 30" barrels, and only 1/2, or about 365 total were made with 30" barrels and ejectors.  So this combination is a very hard gun to find.  Some Elsies have a delicate balance to them in hand, making you believe they are true lightweight guns.  This gun is just such a gun.  Weighing 6 3/4 lbs. and balanced 3/8" ahead of the hinge pin, I was surprised when I put her on the scale.  I would have guessed 6 1/4lbs. it felt so perfect in hand.  Not at all barrel heavy and being made in 1913 it was made with more care than some of the later guns that felt so clunky with that tall rib.  The case color is 80% and very visible, the screws are near perfect, and the wood to metal fit is superb, with no cracks or splits at the apex of the locks.  The 30" barrels have excellent bores, no pits or dents, and are choked M/F from the factory.  We are offering this gun at an affordable price in great condition for the shooter/collector, with well timed ejectors, perfect mechanics, and nice original condition overall.  My intention at purchase was to reblue the barrels and trigger guard and restore the wood, as the barrel blue is weak and shows some staining, and the wood finish has some "crackling" as many L.C. Smith guns do at over 100 years old.  If you like the gun and want it prettied up, we can do the above work for an extra $900 within 8 weeks of purchase.  The gun is fine as is, but with all that factory case color, she would be stunning cleaned up.  Thanks for looking!
