Primary collect US military firearms & 1911’s Description: This is a `Winchester 1873 early 3rd model. The rifle has been decorated with Indian like decorations but I doubt this is the real deal. I got this old girl out of a long time collectors collection. On the tag attached it says " Indian trade rifle found on the Little Big Horn battlefield". Considering that the Mfg date is 1882 (SN 101XXX) and the Little Big Horn took place in 1876 it puts this 1873 a little late to the battle!! I do however believe that is was created some time ago, but a factory letter may confirm that it is a trade rifle to an Indian tribe. The rifle its self is in fair condition. It has a smooth brown patina throughout and a surprisingly strong 8 out 10 bore. The butt stock and forearm are both cracked, loose, and the dust cover is missing. However this is a very interesting piece and may have some strong ties. Thanks SOLD Antique: Yes |
