Description:
Civil War Spencer Army model U.S. military issued rifle in the 105th Pennsylvania Infantry "Wildcat Regiment" range match. The "Wildcat Regiment" was a hard fighting unit that saw engagement at Yorktown, Williamsburg, Fair Oaks, Malvern Hill, Bull Run, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Wilderness, Spotsylvania and Petersburg. One of the most popular Civil War firearms, the Spencer received approval after a personal trial firing demonstration for President Lincoln. Spencer rifles were first introduced by Custer's cavalry at Gettysburg. Clearly marked on the top of frame: "SPENCER REPEATING - / RIFLE CO. BOSTON. MASS. / PAT'D MARCH 6. 1860. ". Serial #22585 on rear of receiver. Two light cartouches on the left side on the stock are present, additional inspector marks on various metal components. Receiver retaining much original case color. Metal overall has a pleasing appearance of smooth, untouched mottled age grey. Barrel length is 30". Good bore with strong grooves, should clean better. The wood overall has a rich colored age luster, one small 1/2" period age ding at top of wrist, could have taken a blade hit. Toe of buttstock with a period 2" stress crack on either side of the rear swivel. Reinforced during the period with an old square-head iron nail, only contributing to the character age of the piece. Mechanics are very good. .100% original and complete. Military marked Spencer rifles are very desirable and highly sought after. Here is your opportunity to own a better than average example that was not abused.
