Description:
Merwin - Hulbert  4th Model Large Frame DA "Frontier" Revolver - Cal. .44-40 - 3 1/4" Bbl. - SN 23XXX ( mid 1880s).   Bore is excellent - bright with sharp rifling - one spot of minor roughness - action is excellent - tight with perfect timing and lock-up  in SA and DA and no looseness.  Metal is excellent overall with no rust, pits, or corrosion and retains about 65%-75% original nickel with some light oxidation/spotting.  Barrel bears the Jan. '73 patent date and hammer with the desirable folding spur has the Jan. '85 patent.  Serial on barrel assy. differs from the serial on the frame and cylinder, not uncommon for this model as barrels were interchangeable - fit is absolutely perfect.  Hard rubber grips  are like new with no wear or damage and with sharp checkering and logo.. These revolvers were manufactured by Hopkins and Allen and were very high quality in fit, functionm and finish. A popular sidearm in the Old West due to rugged construction and the popular .44 caliber and were a desirable back-up revolver with the shorter barrels.  An oll original and fine example of a lesser known early West DA revolver that will make a great addition to an Old West or early American revolver collection.
