Description:
Serial #4353, 6.5 x 53R, 18” barrel with a fine, bright bore that has some mild freckling within the grooves. This is a 1918 dated, Hembrug marked carbine with 97-98% of an arsenal re-applied matte blue finish that has some mild fading along the high edges and projections. The matte blue finish carries over onto the correct, mismatched bolt which has further silvering and finish loss on the bearing surfaces and some dull plum-brown freckling on the handle. The stock, handguard, and magazine fairing have been cleaned to fine condition and a new oil finish added. There are two stable cracks, one short, hairline crack at the top of the wrist, and a larger one at the toe of the butt on either side. The stock has a filled sling swivel inlet on the belly and a still visible Dutch cartouche on the right side. The carbine no longer has its cleaning rod, but an original Mannlicher en-bloc clip is included. These interesting carbines were introduced in 1909 and featured a wooden fairing on the left side of the magazine housing to allow the carbine to sit flatter on the backs of bicycle-mounted troops. They are not often seen and this example is in good-very good condition. FFL or C&R
