This is a very nice carbine and retains about 95-97% of the original rich, commercial blue finish on the barrel and receiver that has silvered slightly at the muzzle and along the high and projecting edges. The bolt, likewise, has about 90-92% of the original blue remaining with some streaks of gray on the bearing surfaces and on the ?butter knife? bolt handle. In addition to the original rear two-leaf barrel sight, a folding peep sight has been installed on the end of the cocking-piece and claw bases have been added. The pre-war Austrian proofs and factory markings are crisp and sharp, and some traces of the original bright fire blue remains within the channel along the top of the front claw base. The full-length walnut stock is in fine-excellent condition with a slightly pale added oil finish over only a few very minor handling marks and small blemishes. The fine checkering on the forearm and pistol grip is slightly flattened but still gives good purchase, and a rounded continental cheek-piece is present. The rifle is comes with a period Kahles ?Heliaver? scope with No. 4 reticle, and crisp clear optics. The scope itself has an overall mild plum-brown patina mixing with gray, but does retain original blue on the ocular lens housing and original black paint on some of the other areas as well. The scope comes with its original brown leather carry case that has a flaked but still serviceable carry strap, and is missing one of the lid keepers. This is an excellent example of a very super Mannlicher-Schoenauer hunting carbine with period, high quality optics, and would make a fantastic addition to any collection.
