#3881, K.D. Radcliffe, 150 High Street, Colchester: A 12 Bore Boxlock Ejector Made 1932 with 25" Dovetail Lump Barrels with a Churchill rib, .731 .004 & .016" (Skt.I & Open Mod.), Original 2 1/2" chambers, Nitro Proved at 1 1/8 ounce, Wall thickness on the right barrel at .028" & .027" on the left, Double triggers, Splinter forend with an Anson release, Straight hand stock at 14 7/16 x 1 1/2 x 2 5/16" over a 1" pad, Cast-off for the right hand, 6 lbs. 3 oz., 90% coverage of very nice scroll engraving, The barrels professionally reblacked & now at 95%, The stock at 92%, The checkering at 92%, The piece is tight on the face with a lot of bite left, The bores are in excellent condition. If you want an ideal entry level English lightweight gun that is well built, this could be the piece. This gun has Northern Grouse & Woodcock written all over it. On walk up bird shooting over dogs 25" barrels work absolutely as efficient as longer barrels in the hands of the average upland hunter. //////////////////////////////// The address of 150 High Street in Colchester, England is of interest to gun owners and shooters as it was the address of a Gun Shop in 1787. By 1898 K. D. (Kenith Dudley) Radcliffe started his business at that address after being there since 1893. As an apprentice he was paid nothing for the first year, £5 for each of the 2nd and 3rd years and £15 for the 4th year. They made guns until 1956 and then started making guns again in 1976 in the shop by R. B. Radcliffe and some by Pat Dennis. K. D. Radcliffe Ltd. remained at 150 High St until October 5, 2013 when it moved to a new address. They remain in business to this very day and you can check them out at kdradcliffe.co.uk
