Description:
Ithaca Grade 2E 20 Gauge SxS Shotgun
75% CASE COLOR, RARE SWAMPED RIB, NICE!

General Specs: Ithaca, Year 1918, 20 Gauge, 6lbs 5oz, Side by Side
Serial Number: 293546

Ithaca made over 250,000 Flues model guns, the most prolific of all of their various models of side by side guns created over the years.  Collectors of Ithaca guns tend to gravitate toward the NID model that followed the Flues model.  My opinion is that the Flues gun is often more desirable in the way of handling characteristics, weight, and balance than the NID, and they have always been reliable, solid little guns.  They always had nicer wood and checkering than other makers in the same price range, and over one hundred  thousand are still in use today.  This gun, sn293546 built in 1918, IS A VERY DIFFERENT GUN THAN THE AVERAGE FLUES GUN YOU WILL SEE FOR SALE.  First, this gun has the SUNKEN OR "SWAMPED" RIB, A RARE FEATURE FOUND ON ONLY A HANDFUL OF ITHACA FLUES GUNS as noted in Snyder's book on page 317.  This is the 4th one I have owned or seen in 20 years of collecting American double guns.  Second, the barrels, trigger guard, forend iron, and receiver all have lots of original factory finishes remaining, with nice 75% case colors.  These little guns are most often found with little finish remaining, used hard over the years.  The wood has been restored and checkering cleaned up sometime in the past and well done.  And third, this gun is blessed with very strong well timed ejectors, not often found on Grade 2 guns.  A nice lightweight little 20 gauge that has been well cared for and will make a fine upland and clays gun and increase in value as you enjoy its use.
