Description:
This is a rare and handsome dagger that measures 14 5/8" overall with a 9 13/16" straight, double-edged blade having full length double fullers. The ricasso reverse is stamped with the Carl Eickhorn trademark and small "(eagle)M" stamp while the obverse is marked "O 1005" (Ostsee nr. 1005). The naval type crossguard has a typical block center with bulbous quillons and has a fouled anchor motif on the obverse with geometric design and catch button opposite. The blue morocco grip is very slightly loose and has some of the original tint remaining with the high areas worn to the underlying dark brown leather and has the eagle and wreath police emblem on the obverse while the pommel has a slightly pinker ochre tarnish compared to the rest of the metal furniture. The correct naval style scabbard has the fairly common "lightning bolt" motif engraving with knotted rope hanger bands and has an overall dark ochre tarnish. An original Water Protection Police hanger is also included which is in excellent condition having only minor thread wear on the straps and a tarnish on the metal components that matches the scabbard. This is a fine example of a very hard to find Third Reich dagger and would make a great addition to any collection.
