Description:
U.S. Smith & Wesson Model 1917 Revolver, serial # 138559, cal. 45 ACP/AR, 5 1/2” pinned barrel with a near excellent bore showing some light frosting on the lands. The metal surfaces on this 5-screw N-Frame retain approximately 98% original blue finish showing some small scratches and handling marks with a turn ring present on the cylinder. There is some light silvering on the high edges and muzzle. Correct inspection marks remain crisp and include the U.S. Ordnance flaming bomb and the eagle / S24, S1, S2 marking. The trigger and standard hammer exhibit their original color case-hardened finish although they appear to be slightly dulled. All of the parts on this Model 1917 match numerically except for the diamond center checkered walnut stocks with gold Smith and Wesson medallions, which rate about excellent displaying some small dings and dents. The standard half-moon front sight has been filed down and shaped into an undercut Patridge front sight. Inscribed on the right side of the frame with an electric pencil are the letters “R.C.A.F” with “7/B” underneath it and a broad arrow above it, one would assume signifying use by the Royal Canadian Air Force. This U.S. Army Model 1917 revolver as described is in about excellent condition overall.  Inv.: # 1-1237
