Description:
SpringField Trapdoor Carbine Model 1873  Serial number 30,450 Pre-Custer Era.  Attributed to 10th Cavalry issue, (Buffalo Soldiers)

This is a great 1873, 1st model carbine.  It was probably manufactured in January/February of 1874.  It has the long wrist stock and the earliest type butt plate.  No hole in the butt of the stock for cleaning rods.  The carbine sight is graduated on the right side from 1 to 5.  The front sight is two piece with a pin.  The front band has a stacking swivel with patent date.  Hammer has early deep coarse cut checkering.  The trigger is smooth with correct trigger guard.  The barrel does not have a V. P. or Eagle markings, which is correct for this model.  The lock is marked Eagle in front of U.S., Springfield, 1873 in three lines.  It has the high breech block, which is marked Model 1873, eagle over crossed arrows over U.S.  The lock has the three click tumbler. The wood is near mint with all the correct inspection cartouches (ESA) with original oil finish.  It is marked with sub-inspector, AL behind the lower tang's proof "P".  Small "U" marked on right side of barrel band, pointed toward muzzle .   It would be near impossible to find a Pre-Custer piece in this kind of condition.  The metal retains 90% finish and the bore is near mint.   Comes with original Model of 1884 Scabbard/Boot.  Also comes with original box of Frankford Arsenal 45-70 Ammo (about 15 rounds).  Mechanically excellent, action is tight, NO WOBBLE as in hard used weapons of this period.  Let me know if you want a better picture of any item.  I am not a great photographer with my camera, but I'll try my best.  If you have questions, please let us know.  I sell to US buyers only.  Buyer pays $50.00 shipping, which includes a soft case.
