Description:
Serial #6392A, .303 British, 30” barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a splendid L.S.A.-made, London proofed rifle that has a W.J. Jeffrey's “QS” special nickel steel barrel, marked along the top and on the knox form. The barrel retains 90-95% of the original commercial quality blue that has silvered at the muzzle and edges of the front sight protector and fades slightly into a plum-blue color along the bands, most noticeably on the nosecap. The matching numbered bolt has some further silvering on the bearing surfaces and on the handle while the original, windage adjustable tangent rear sight has a mixed blue and plum-brown patina. The rifle also has a BSA No. 9 hinged rear sight mounted which has an adjustable aperture and is in fine condition, commensurate with the rifle. The walnut stock and handguard are in excellent condition with several minor handling marks and blemishes scattered about the original oil finish, and the buttstock in particular has beautifully figured wood with a slightly tarnished short tang brass buttplate and extensive feathering within the grain. The rifle comes with a single ten round magazine and a period brown leather sling that has dried slightly along the edges, but remains still supple and fully serviceable. This is a spectacular Long Lee target and competition rifle, regulated and accurized by one of the most respected names in British gunmaking.
