Description:
NSN, .60 caliber, 9 1/4” barrel with a lightly pitted bore. This is a highly attractive and well-proportioned pistol that has a mellow, mottled gray patina on the “LONDON” marked iron barrel and “W./KETLAND” marked lock. The lock itself has some brown freckling and pinprick pitting, most noticeably on the swan-necked cock, and there are scattered areas of mild freckling with slightly heavier pinprick pitting present on and around the pan, barrel breech surrounding the touchhole, and on the frizzen. The ramrod is a close-fitting replacement that has a ruddy-brown finish, much redder in color than the walnut stock. The stock itself has been lightly sanded and has a re-applied oil finish over light handling marks and minor bruises including a split at the tip of the forend within the ramrod channel, and a set of initials carved into the grip on the right side: “MW”. The brass fixtures have a cleaned bright yellow-ochre patina with an engraved English rose on the trigger guard bow, and stylized palm frond finials on the trigger guard and domed butt cap. The mechanism is still tight and functions flawlessly. This is a handsome British-made flintlock pistol, typical of those purchased privately by officers, and is in very good plus condition overall.
