Description:
Ithaca 5E Single Barrel Trap Shotgun
98% FACTORY CONDITION, 1957, 32" BARREL

General Specs: Ithaca, Year 1957, 12 Gauge, 8lbs 1oz, SBT
Serial Number: 404218

The Ithaca Gun Co. produced the most iconic trap gun ever invented, the Knickerbocker or "Knick"  Single Barrel Trap Gun.  In production from 1922 until the last Knick was made in 1982, 5740 were produced.  By 1935 the Knick in the hands of able shooters won the Grand American Handicap six times, by 1976 was responsible for over 25% of the total wins at the Grand American.  They made a lot of Grade 4E’s, but the 5E was much more ornate, more expensive, and is a harder gun to find.  If you scan the internet gun selling sites for Ithaca Single Barrel Trap (SBT) guns, they are fairly easy to find, and many of them will be considerably less to buy than this fine Ithaca SBT, sn404218 made in 1957.  There are many reasons for this; some are less desirable Flues Model SBT's with serial numbers under 400,000.  There are many Grade 4E guns, few Grade 5E guns.  Most have been shot A LOT,  and show much wear.  Worse yet, most have been altered by the tinkerers they call "Trap Shooters".  These guns have little value to shooters who want to shoot fine, vintage and correct shotguns.  Now make no mistake, there are few shotguns, modern or vintage, that can come to the traps with the patterns and shooting characteristics, including brute strength, that has been seen in the Knick.  These are shooting machines!  Finding a Grade 5E Knick with 90% factory case color, 99% factory blue, and drop-dead gorgeous flame figured walnut, perfect screws, and unaltered from its original factory configuration is a treasure indeed.  Not a crack or repair anywhere.  The wood finish was "crackled" when we found her, as many Knicks are, so the wood finish has been properly restored to perfection.  This is a gun that will continue to gain value as you enjoy its use.  Many people don't think of the SBT as a hunting gun, but a better turkey gun could not be had.  Thanks for looking!
