Description:
#4977 Colt S/A 7-1/2”x45COLT, 94XXX (1883), U.S. Cavalry issued and inspected by David F Clark (DFC). Very good action, and the hammer has all the “clicks” intact and a positive lock-up. The bore looks to be about a 7-8 on a scale of 10 and has no serious pitting or bulges; just light wear. The exterior looks to have been very lightly cleaned to semi-bright, but is fine sharp metal with no rounded edges or weak markings. It also has the correct style ejector housing with the correct Bulls-Eye ejector head. The grips are Very Good+ with just medium wear (or cleaning ) and so have no readable cartouches remaining. They look to probably be the correct original grips to this revolver as they do fit well with the exception of some slight undersizing. O.K. now the caveats. With so many of these desirable Colt Single Actions having had some degree of up-gradings, restorations and/or cosmetic enhancements ….especially the Cavalry models, I am always reluctant to say this gun is a “pure-as-the-driven-snow” piece. In most cases it seems that SOMETHING of consequence has been done to these highly sought after Cavalry models …and while I am certainly no expert, this gun does look right to me (but that is ONLY my opinion!) with the possibility of the cylinder markings looking very crisp (and this part usually bears the most wear). It should therefore be considered as possibly being a restored gun to some degree and is being priced as such even though I cannot pick a rock-solid reason for saying this. It is a decent, martial marked revolver and inspected by the most prolific inspector and issued during the period of heavy Indian conflicts. For the mid-range collector who can accept a possibly restored gun, it is a good and rare opportunity to acquire a very desirable Cavalry Single Action at a fraction of what these usually are priced. There are lots of pictures of this neat old gun (17 in all), so if they all do not load up, be sure to e-mail me and I’ll forward them along to you. About VG+ as described. $4295
