#1156, W & C Scott & Son, Patentee, Dorset Place, Pall Mall, London, Laminated Steel: A W & C Scott 10 Bore Bar Lock Non-Rebounding Hammer Toplever Heavy Wildfowl Gun Made in 1868 that remains in Excellent Original Condition, Scott's spindle and top snap patent action used to connect the top lever and double locking bolt into double underlugs with double bite, 28" extractor dovetail lump extractor barrels, .762 .000 & .000" (Cyl. & Cyl.), 2 3/4" chambers, Wall thickness on the right barrel at .046" and .040" on the left, Splinter forend with a horn tip, Crossbolt wedge forend release, Straight hand stock at 14 1/2 x 1 7/8 x 2 7/8" over the original checkered horn buttplate, Cast-off for the right hand, 10 bore weight at 8 lbs. 15 oz., Excellent wood with excellent black/brown contrast, Both the buttstock and forend wood remain is as solid and stout as it was 152 years ago, This piece has inletting that remains as solid as 152 years ago, 70% coverage of very nice scroll engraving that is still as sharp as the day it was cut, The barrels retain 90% vivid and bright brown pattern with excellent striking, 85% bright & vivid case colors on both lock plates, The wood finish remains at 94%, The checkering is 97-98%, The bores are excellent without any pits but one very very slight ring, The barrels ring with a pronounced chime, Every screw is north & south, It is smack on the face. This is one outstanding piece that remains in incredible condition for a gun of this age. Install a set of Briley 12 bore insert tubes and it will be a dove shooting machine with style and grace. ////////////////////////////// W & C Scott and Webley & Scott is one of the best known names in the British sporting gun trade. They made a lot of guns but also produced some very high quality pieces. They provided a lot of semi-finished and finished guns to nearly everyone in the trade. William Scott set up shop in 1834, in 1897 he joined with P. Webley & Son and basically made guns until 1979 and then it again became W & C Scott. In 1985 Holland & Holland acquired the name and I believe the last Scott made was in 1991.
