Description:
Serial #WB524, 16 ga. over 8 x 57R, 26 3/4” barrels with excellent, bright bores. This is a lovely gun that has a thick, matted top rib with two leaf rear sight, swivel eyelet, and right side claw mount bases on the barrels which retain virtually all of an old and excellent refreshed blue finish that has left the corners, edges, markings, and decorative engraving at the breech crisp and clear, although there is a slightly sloppy transition from the rib matting to the raised front sight base. The frame has a crossbolt fastener with engraved game scene vignettes bordered by scrollwork and geometric designs: pheasant and pointer on the left side, duck and leaping stag on the right. The metal has an overall dull pewter gray patina with scattered areas of mild freckling, but traces of the original bright color case-hardening can still be seen on the underside at the front of the trigger guard. The finely checkered walnut forend has a lovely added finish over unsanded wood that carries over onto the stock which has a checkered pistol grip, horn trigger guard and scalloped grip cap, continental cheek-piece, spring-loaded four cartridge trap, and a length of pull measuring 14 3/4” to a grooved black buttplate with drops of 1 5/8” and 2 7/8” respectively. There are some minor handling marks and small surface blemishes present in the wood, but these are minor and the wood is otherwise in fine shape with an attractive, lightly feathered grain. The lock-up is tight with the lever very slightly right of center, and a Paul Jaeger mount with 1” rings has been installed on the claw bases. This is a great gun for a wooded region that allows for simultaneous light-medium game and bird hunting like northern New England. FFL or C&R
