Description: Serial #3285, .500/.450 No. 1 caliber, 28” barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a splendid sporter and the photos really don't do it justice. It is a plainer grade rifle that has an unengraved, left-hand, non-bolted lock. The barrel has a long sporting front blade with v-notch, two leaf rear sight graduated from 100 yards to 200 yards, and retains 90-95% of the original bright blue that has some brown freckling and fading at the muzzle. Some further silvering occurs on the raised surfaces of the rear sight base, and there is a small oval-shaped spot of gray metal on the top right just behind the front sight. Despite the lack of decorative embellishments, the frame is quite lovely and retains about 90% of the original, slightly muted color case-hardening throughout. There are some dull specks of pale brown freckling scattered about, mostly on the top of the receiver and on the left side flat. The lockplate and hammer likewise retain a commensurate amount of the original color case-hardening with some pewter gray patina starting to creep in at the edges. The breechblock has a fairly bright gray patina with some mild freckling and a single linear impact mark on the top, while the trigger guard and under-lever have developed a dull gray patina with some specks of mild freckling in spots. The wedge-fastened forend and nicely figured buttstock have some minor handling marks and small blemishes marring the otherwise fine-excellent oil finish. The action locks up tightly and the rifle rates excellent condition overall. These lower grade rifles were generally put to hard use and are almost never seen in such good condition. This example would make a wonderful addition to any collection and would be very difficult to upgrade. {Ref. “The British Single Shot Rifle” Vol. 1 by Walter Winfer; 1998} Antique SOLD Antique: Yes Manufacturer: Alexander Henry Model: Sporting Rifle Serial Number: 3285 Caliber Info: .500/450 Gauge Info: .500/450 |
