Description:
Serial #362, 7mm Mauser, 33 1/2” octagon target barrel with a very good, bright bore that has some very mild freckling within the grooves. This is a truly exceptional rifle, built on a Greek Model 1903 Mannlicher-Schoenauer action complete with clip guide. The original rotary magazine assembly has been removed and a fixed, nickel steel loading tray installed in its place, and a massive target barrel with rear sight rail and matted front sight base has been fitted. The rifle retains 90-92% of the original blue finish with some mild freckling present on the left side of the barrel just ahead of the rounded horn forend tip. The action has a small maker marking on the receiver ring: “CASIMIR WEBER/ZURICH/SUISSE”, and the original military bolt (which has an attractive stippled finish added to the safety) has been renumbered to the gun. The rifle has a Swiss style adjustable rear target sight, and the walnut stock with beak-shaped semi-pistol grip has tight checkering at the wrist and unusual wide finger grooves on the forearm that have upwards facing terminals. The wood has scattered light handling marks and minor blemishes in the original oil finish, but the wood is otherwise in fine condition with a small circular stamp on the right side of the butt that is difficult to read but does say “BELLGARDE” along the bottom which could be a reference to Geneva or the Jura hills. Casimir Weber was a well known Zurich gunmaking and retail company that operated between 1824-1914 and, according to their 1907/1908 catalog, offered single-shot target rifles built on the Mannlicher action as a custom option. This is a fantastic Swiss target rifle, in very good plus-fine condition, that is in a highly unusual caliber and configuration. It would make a fantastic addition to any collection. FFL or C&R
