Here is one of the prettiest Colt hammer sporting models I have ever seen or owned.. A nice very clean gun with a fine bore and custom HARD To find THICK genuine mother of pearl checkered grips. It is the only checkered Pearl set of grips I have ever seen. Few people understand that the limitation for mother of pearl grips is thickness rather than length or width. The pearl oyster is a clam - and its shell is- like all clams - oval and semispherical, so that the center part is not really thicker than most of the rest of the shell. It is about as thick an inch from the edge as it is, at the center. Only the largest of pearl shell specimens ( perhaps only one in a thousand) can exceed much more than about 1/4" max. thickness after they are ground flat to fit the frame. . These are .330 thick. I have owned dozens of pearl handled grip revolvers and automatics and this one has the thickest pearl I have ever seen. The pictures do not do the quality of the pearl justice in most shots. Thick mother of pearl of good quality is scarce and desirable. This is a very cool looking authentic period 'gangster' gun. Please note: ( that the first two shots showing the sides of the pistol - are a bit washed out due to glare. The TRUE representation of the finish is best seen on the following four pictures) If you really do not care for mother of pearl - there is no sense reading any further. They MAKE the gun! I give a 3 day satisfaction nonfiring inspection.
