Description:
S#1579, 297/230L caliber 27 1/2 inch barrel, very good bore with strong rifling and scattered light erosion. This interesting little rifle was built between 1884 and 1897. Frame is marked with "Francotte's Patent" in Circle, "Victorian Government" over crown, "1579" and shows disposal mark. barrel reads "Barrel Made by The Birmingham Small Arms Co Ltd Birmingham" with "230 L", "1579" and disposal marking. Gun has the original sights and features Francotte's removable action with cocked action indicator that is broken but the pieces are included. Metal surfaces show about 50% blue with a dark patina developing. Wood has been lightly sanded with a little oil added. Stock shows some cracks by lever seat on left side. The butplate/buttstock may have been modified from original. No cleaning rod is present. This cartridge pushes a 56 grain bullet 1150 FPS with black powder as the propellant. A very neat rifle from a time when boy's were expected to shoot straight and true. Antique
