Description:
Serial #57321, .45 ACP, 6 1/2” barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a handsome World War I revolver that has matching numbers on the frame, yoke, extractor, and barrel with the metal retaining 95-97% of a nice matte blue, re-applied finish that was added when the gun was converted to .45 ACP. The metal retains 97-98% of the added blue finish with some very slight fading along a few of the high edges and projections as well as a light turn-ring on the cylinder. The metal itself has even pinprick pitting throughout under the blue but the British military crossed pennants, double arrow deaccession stamps, and later Birmingham proofs. Additionally, the second “5” in “.455” has been peened out on the barrel and “AR” added (denoting .45 Auto Rim). Additionally, the lanyard swivel has been removed. The hammer and trigger retain about 25% of their original color case-hardened finish with the balance turned freckled plum-brown. The checkered, diamond-center, S&W medallion grips are numbered to the gun on the interior and have light-moderate wear and surface blemishes as well as some minor blemishes and impact marks around the flare of the butt. Some light-moderate flattening of the checkering points is also present. The lock-up is still tight and the mechanism functions flawlessly. This is a neat .455 hand ejector (now .45 hand ejector) that was ordered for British military service and would make a fine shooter. FFL or C&R
