Description:
***   SOLD   ***   This high grade Bentley & Playair “Quality 50” sideplated boxlock ejector has great engraving, highly figured Damascus barrels, and beautifully figured wood. It is one of the highest grade doubles offered by the maker. It is cased in a period case with maker’s label. The gun was made in the late 1890’s and weighs 6lb 6oz.   ***   The 30-1/4” nitro Damascus barrels are chambered for 2-1/2” cartridges and have automatic ejectors. They are topped by a concave game style rib marked “Bentley & Playfair 60 Queen Victoria Street London”. The Damascus figure is striking and the barrels have recently been re-browned. The right barrel is bored 0.730 with a constriction of 0.015 for Light Modified choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.022. The left barrel is bored 0.735 with a constriction of 0.038 for Full choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.022.   ***   The straight grip stock and splinter forearm have great figure. The wood finish is good but there are some handling marks from normal usage. Checkering shows some wear. Stock dimensions are 14-1/4” to a thin butt plate by 1-1/2” by 2-1/8”. Cast off for the right hand shot.   ***   The period case has some stains on the exterior leather and the lining inside. The straps that secure the case closed are fairly recent replacements. This is a really well balanced and beautiful double with terrific engraving and handsome wood. Will make a great clays or game gun.   ***   Buyer is responsible for all shipping, insurance, and any other related charges. I give a 3-day non-firing inspection period and will only accept returns at buyer’s expense if the gun is not as described in the listing.
