SPRINGFIELD KRAG U.S. MODEL 1898 ALTERED CARBINE WITH RARE MODEL 1896 S.R.C. STOCK. Essentially an arsenal changed Model 1898 rifle in the 202,xxx serial range with fine original U.S. Model 1896 Carbine stock with very crisp original “JLA/1897” inspector’s cartouche. Has a fine circled “P” proof stamped on the stock wrist to the rear of the trigger guard. Original and fine Model 1896 hand guard. Both the stock and hand guard have the original finish with the butt stock having a chip missing on the left side at the plate juncture. Original sectional cleaning rod in the butt plate trap. Model 1896 rifle rear sight. Original cleaning rod and oiler in butt trap. Very good bore and working order. Very hard to find a stock for this model carbine.
