Description:
Colt SAA Artillery Model .45 Colt. 5 1/2" blued barrel, cased hardened frame and blued ejector rod, cylinder, triggerguard and backstrap and one piece walnut grip. The left side of the frame is "US" stamped and the wood grips on the right side has inspector's "RAC" cartouche. This Artillery model was manufactured in 1891 with serial number 138797. The revolver was one of a number of artillery models that were returned to Colt and Springfield Armory for dismantling, modification and refinishing. The barrels were modified from 7 1/2 inch to 5 1/2 inches. When reasembled, many or most were thrown together with no regards to matching serial numbers, hench why our SAA and many like it has three serial numbers. The other two serial numbers include 119979 which is stamped on the bottom of the triggerguard, and the bottom of the backstrap is stamped with 132682 and a "K" sub-inspector mark stamped underneath. The barrel and cylinder both have "RAC" inspector's mark, and there is a "P" sub-inspector mark next to the "RAC" mark on the barrel. The cylinder also as a "Q" stamped onto the back which is directly across from the "RAC" mark.Condition of the revolver: The barrel has 80% or better bluing, the ejector rod housing blue is worn only along the outer edge but the protected areas have very good blue. Most of the triggerguard and backstrap are in brown patina but there is some good blue remaining towards the front screw area of the triggerguard. The cylinder has very good blue, 85 to 90 percent, and the chambers are free of corrosion, they are bright and shiny. The bore is in excellent condition, remarkably so, it is very bright and shiny with strong lands and grooves. The wood grip has three dings on the right side (more noticeable in person) and a total of five on the left, otherwise the wood is in very good condition. Overall a very nice Single Action Army Artiller Model!
