I have a friend who looked after an ailing friend of his for years, until his passing. As a "thank you", the ailing friend left my friend several Winchester shotguns, including this incredible 1947 vintage Model 42. And maybe best of all, it has the rare solid rib. It handles 3" shells, has a 28" barrel, and is full choke. As you can see in the photos, it has been handled, but only briefly. It has very small, barely seen scratches on both sides of the receiver, and a couple of small, barely discernable scratches on the butt stock. The bluing overall is of outstanding quality. If it is not 98% condition, it is very close, indeed far past 95%. The bore is very clean. I suppose it was fired, maybe years ago, but it is not apparent in viewing the bore and action. It has the groved forearm modified in this, the initial year of its introduction, 1947. And as you all know I am sure, 164 thousand of the Model 42s were manufactured by Winchester in the 1933-1963 time frame, in 4 grades. Last, the Winchester butt plate has a brown color on its edges, which could not be removed with a tender scrubbing, not sure what this is (see photo).
