Description:
These are a very unique Civil War Era gun that was made by the Meriden Manufacturing Co. A rather rare gun with only about 5,000 ever built. This one is in the scarcer 22" bbl variety. These carbines are very unique in the sense that they use a rotating breech for the unloading and loading process. This was one of the early attempts at the repeating arm and evidently didn't work out but it sure was a good idea. This gun is in quite good condition for being a century and a half old. A very pleasing dark patina to the breech block and bbl. The frame is an antique grey color. Surprisingly the bore is VG! The wood is in good cond. Full size at upper and lower tang. A chip missing where the tubular mag goes into the stock. That was one of the weak points of this firearm. A couple of hairline cracks coming off of the upper tang and mag tube. The rest of the stock shows use but in good overall cond. Forearm is exceptional. Markings on this gun are the correct Triplett & Scott on the upper tang. Meriden Manuf. on the frame. Kentucky on the chamber block. A very unique piece of American History and something you don't see very often. Very good collectable for not a lot of money.
